Why atom is electrically neutral ?

1.An atom is electrically neutral because it has an equal number of protons and electrons. 
Protons carry a positive charge, while electrons carry a negative charge of the same magnitude. 

2.In a neutral atom, the positive charges from the protons balance out the negative charges from the electrons, resulting in no overall charge.

3.The nucleus of the atom contains the protons (and neutrons, which have no charge). 
Surrounding the nucleus are the electrons in various energy levels or shells. 

4.As long as the atom has not gained or lost any electrons (which would make it an ion), it remains electrically neutral.
